Taking new projects

Websites, web apps, online stores, mobile apps, and booking systems that pull their weight, designed and built in Piedmont, Alabama.

Four kinds of work.

Each recording below comes from a client’s site as it runs today.

Where most clients start

Websites

Fast on a phone and clear about what you do, so the right people call. I handle the domain, email and Google setup before launch.

  • Roofers, plumbers, fence companies, salons
  • Churches, ministries, and nonprofits
  • City halls and museums
  • Moving off Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress

When a website isn't enough

Web apps

Logins, dashboards, records and schedules: software your staff opens every morning. My largest is WatchRoom, which fire departments use to log calls, truck checks, training and gear. If your business runs on a spreadsheet and a group text, this is usually the fix.

  • Staff consoles and dashboards
  • Booking and scheduling
  • Customer accounts and portals
  • Full products, like WatchRoom

Sell from your own site

Online stores

Your own store on your own site, with Stripe checkout and a page Google can find for every product. Moxie sells its supplements and takes clothing pre-orders this way.

  • Products and checkout
  • Pre-orders and memberships
  • Donations and giving pages
  • Inventory and order emails

For the home screen

Mobile apps

Apps for iPhone and Android that share one system with your website, so your data lives in one place. Local Lantern is built this way, with news, a bulletin board and a business directory that work like an app on a phone. If your customers would use it every week, it should probably be an app.

  • iPhone and Android
  • Ordering and booking
  • Loyalty and memberships
  • Companion apps for web platforms

One flat monthly price after launch.

It covers hosting, backups, security and the changes you send me. The build is quoted up front with no setup fee, and you can pay it over 12 months with nothing down. There’s no contract.

The person who builds it answers the phone.

I’m Nate Butler. I studied computer science at Jacksonville State, then spent five years writing software for the Department of Defense, where work has to be finished properly and secure from the start.

Now I build for businesses, nonprofits and towns here in Alabama. The studio is named after the Chief Ladiga Trail, which runs through Piedmont.

Common questions.

Have one that isn’t here? Text me at (256) 689-6557.

What does a project cost?

It depends on the project. A five-page site for a plumber and a booking platform are different jobs, so each gets its own quote. There's no setup fee. You pay for the build up front or over 12 months with nothing down, then a care plan from $50 a month. You'll see an itemized quote before anything starts.

Do you really build apps, or just websites?

Both. Most of my work is websites, but a growing share is software. WatchRoom runs fire departments, Local Lantern is a statewide community platform with accounts and a business directory, and the Depot Museum takes field trip bookings through its own staff console. We scope an app on the first call like any other project.

What's the difference between the three care plans?

Essential ($50) covers hosting, backups and five changes a month. Growth ($100) adds unlimited changes, next-business-day turnaround and a monthly review of your Google rankings. Performance ($200) is for apps and stores, and I also update the site weekly from what you post on social media. You can switch plans anytime.

How do the social media updates work?

On Performance, I follow your business's social pages. Once a week, anything worth keeping, such as new products, events or good photos, goes on the site. You keep posting as usual, and your website stays current.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Pay up front, or split the build over 12 months with nothing down. After month 12 you're only on the care plan, and the site, design and code belong to you.

What about a domain and hosting that already exist?

Keep your domain. It stays yours, and I point it at the new site on launch day. Hosting usually moves over too, since mine is faster and included in the plan. I check your email before and after so it keeps working.

Can a site move off Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress?

It's one of the most common jobs I do. Evergreen Roofing moved off Squarespace and Marked For Life moved off Wix, and every old link still works. Running your current site through the free SEO check is a good place to start.

How long does it take?

Most websites take four to six weeks from the first call to launch, and some go faster: Moxie's was live in a day and a half. Apps and stores take longer, and the timeline comes with your quote.

What if I want to leave?

You can leave anytime. There's no contract or cancellation fee, and the files are yours. If you'd rather host the site elsewhere, I'll help you move it.

Tell me about your project.

Send a few lines about what you need, and I’ll reply by the next business day, usually sooner.
